This test is used to check the levels of insulin naturally produced in your body.

Book your blood test 

Your blood sample needs to be frozen and sent to a specific lab so the test must be taken at the Royal Berkshire Hospital:

On the day of your blood test

  1. If you inject insulin, take this as you normally would
  2. Eat a high carbohydrate meal, for example several pieces of toast with fruit juice
    • Ideally your blood sugar must be above 8.0 mmol/l at the time of the blood sample. 
  3. Ensure the person taking your blood is aware the sample needs to be 'spun' and frozen before sending it to the lab
